787 #5 looks like it is. Ring used as a maintenance trainer

Planelopnik and Boatlopnik follows. After spending the night on Whidbey Island in Washingon I had to run down to Seattle to pick up some friends for the rest of our vacation week I got lucky with the ferries and has about 30 minutes of extra time. I opted to drive around the access roads of Paine Field. This is the home of Boeing’s Everett plant. Got a good view of some early 787s being used for test.

Is Allen restoring the 262 to airworthiness? I know Collings has one, but I don't know if it flies. Would kill to see one in the air.

Whidbey is awesome. We like to drive north through LaConner, drop down through Anacortes, and make it all the way down to Clinton and catch the ferry back to Mukilteo.

Try to check out Fort Casey State Park before you leave.

Those 787 are known as the “terrible teens”they are early builds that are above the target weight and do not have the same flight range as later builds.

Most airlines have passed on purchasing these and they sit awaiting modification or potential sale

For Whidbey I like to go up north through deception pass. Hit up mt. Erie. I remember going on feild trips to fort casey when i was in daycare. Capture the flag is way more fun at a military base with lookout towers.

They have one airworthy 262 with updated engines. I have seen it fly.

I grew up in Mukilteo, which is the site of the Boeing Plant at Paine (everybody says Seattle, which is miles away) and one thing also not known is that Every 747 in the WORLD was built in MUKILTEO, WA. I learned to fly at PAE when the USAF ran it and I was in a little Aeronca Champ with an unreliable handheld radio. It got interesting at times. It is becoming the aviation mecca of the world with Paul Allen’s FHC collection and John Session’s collection across the runway, not to mention all of the world class restorations going on there. Quite the interesting place.

Yes! Paul bought a 262 and they’ve remodeled the original Jumo engines with modern metallurgy and it is supposed to fly in public soon. He also has a flying Mosquito being restored in New Zealand that is supposed to be here this winter sometime. good times!

If you were on that ferry over the weekend than you saw where I was, second house from the ferry dock. Had some good party time, went crabbing and all.

Family there has been all Boeing since the 40's
